OUR MISSION
The Sherburne County SUP Coalition exists to prevent substance use among our youth by promoting safe and healthy choices among all community members.
While we are broadly focused on decreasing the overall use of substances, our efforts prioritize alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco, which have been identified through state and county data as key substances of concern.
What We Do:
-
Advocate for Youth: Develop and implement prevention strategies that directly benefit our youth.
-
Drive Change: Shape policies, programs, and initiatives that address substance use in our community.
-
Collaborate: Work together toward a common goal of building a safe, healthy, and drug-free community.
-
Make a Difference: Work towards a safer and healthier Sherburne County for all.
The coalition consists of youth, parents, county staff, school leaders, law enforcement, healthcare professionals, and community groups that organize to meet the local prevention needs of the youth and families in our community.
While the SUP Coalition is broadly focused on decreasing the overall use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs in our community, we have chosen to address three substance concerns found through state and county data. These substances include:

Our Funding
In 2014, our coalition was awarded a Drug-Free Communities (DFC) grant from the Federal government. This grant provided $125,000 per year for five years, and had the ability to be renewed for an additional five years.
In 2019, we reapplied for the DFC grant and received a second round of funding for another five years!
The Federal DFC Program provides funding and resources for community coalitions that organize to prevent youth substance use. The program’s philosophy is that local drug problems require local solutions, and recent data shows that communities that have DFC-funded coalitions experience lower substance use in youth.
